Food and beverage importers and distributors are unable to guarantee long term financial return from the third-party owned brands they build in their markets. Distributors work tirelessly to launch and grow brands in their markets on behalf of their Principal’s, often funding a significant proportion of the costs, and at any time there is a risk that the Principal may leave them.
Food and beverage importers and distributors lack control. Because they typically do not have any form of equity or ownership in the brands they represent, they have no long-term decision-making authority over those brands. Having no ownership or authority means that distributors do the hard work upfront to establish a brand in their market, but then do not always share in the downstream financial reward that comes from growing sales, if the brand leaves them.
