The Malaysian government has introduced new requirements on wine imports that have significantly slowed down entry of imported wines into the market. Import licenses for all alcohol importers in Malaysia expired on 31 December 2017 and it could take as long as three to four months for importers to obtain a renewed license.

Importers also have to register all wines prior to import which is further disrupting normal business flow. We know of at least one importer who had shipments that arrived in port in Malaysia mid 2017 but they still have not been cleared due to delays with the registration of wines.
